Susan Shiner Dance Academy

Experienced & Friendly Dance Staff

Susan Shiner Dance Academy began operating 47 years ago in temporary premises, but the Academy is now based in West Wallsend near Newcastle and has three purpose built studios with full length mirrors and wall mounted barres.

While our location has changed over the years, our purpose has remained the same. We cherish every student as an individual and foster their learning to build esteem, confidence and personal growth. Susan Shiner Dance Academy participates in the Royal Academy of Dance Classical Ballet Examinations. However, students who prefer to dance for fun and exercise are equally welcome. Our students enjoy a range of classes and all are included in our annual Cavalcade of Dance production.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all students participate in a concert, if so, how many performances?

YES! with December being a particularly busy time of year for all families we feel that ONE production at the CIVIC Theatre Newcastle that showcases and INCLUDES ALL OF OUR STUDENTS from toddlers to Seniors is perfect. We also have one technical rehearsal at our stage venue.
Do I need to be able to sew costumes for my child? End of year productions can be expensive how do you manage this?

At Susan Shiner Dance Academy all students’ costumes are hired from the studio, which means no sewing or expensive costume purchases AT ALL!

Following the ethos that every child deserves a chance to dance, we have our own team of legends that fit, sew and design our costumes for our Cavalcade of Dance productions and costs are kept to a bare minimum for families by fundraising throughout the year.
Are your teachers qualified and experienced?

All teachers at Susan Shiner Dance Academy have the relevant qualifications and a vast range of experience within their teaching genres and all lesson plans are overseen by Miss Felicity. Many of our teachers have been students within the studio and pass on their love of dance in each class.
Do all students have to do exams?

NO there are a wide variety of classes at Susan Shiner Dance Academy were examination aren't taken. However if you would like to participate in Classical Ballet or Tap classes examinations, additional classes are avaliable.
